Eureka! Institutional Repository

The present dissertation was carried out in the context of the dissertation of the Department of Library, Archives and Information Systems. Its goal is the successful elaboration, registration and presentation of the undergraduate and postgraduate theses in the Institutional Depository "Eureka!". The purpose of this work is on the one hand the direct contact and familiarization with the part of the digitization of the archives of the Central Library of the University of Greece and on the other hand the contribution to the work of the aforementioned library and its staff respectively. Through this process, a printed file is converted to an electronic one. As a result, not only is the simplification of how the library user searches is achieved, but also its better service. In the introductory part of this dissertation, the concept of Digital Libraries, their definitions and advantages, the means of development as well as their historical background and their evolution in the form they have taken until today are presented. Next, reference is made to the Institutional Depositories in general, their services, content and benefits respectively with their definitions, purpose and historical background. This chapter also introduces the concept of Open Access, its purpose and benefits. Also, important reference is made in the fourth chapter of this dissertation, in the Institutional Repository "Eureka!". Extensive information is provided on the purpose, content, services and technology it offers as an Institutional Depository. The fifth chapter of the work is the most important part of it, as the whole process of registration, processing and submission of records with the presence of the images that correspond to each field is developed and presented in detail. Finally, reference is made to the conclusions that emerged throughout the writing and execution of the work, while two additional tables are presented bearing the entries and the index of the thematic headings.
