Βοζίνη, Ελένη/ Πασπάλη, Αναστασία

The following thesis deals with the evolution of theatrical and cinematic makeup, the relationship between the two concepts, and how they have influenced and been influenced by the economic, social and political conditions of each era.It aims to cover the history of make-up and specifically of make-up in theatre and cinematography, to prove the strong correlation between Art and the sociopolitical and economic circumstances of each time period. That’s because Art relates to and usually copies life itself. This thesis aims to highlight the significance of make-up in the spheres of theatre and cinematography and to analyse the different tools used for each different technique. Going through the Seventh Art of Cinema, a historical retrospective is made to detail its influence on people's daily lives but also the influence of society on it. In addition, it attempts to attribute the importance of lighting to the makeup of a theatrical play, as well as to analyze the influence of the cinema makeup on the proper use of different films.
