The following thesis deals with the evolution of theatrical and cinematic makeup, the relationship between the two concepts, and how they have influenced and been influenced by the economic, social and political conditions of each era.It aims to cover
the history of make-up and specifically of make-up in theatre and cinematography, to prove the strong correlation between Art and the sociopolitical and economic circumstances of each time period. That’s because Art relates to and usually copies life itself. This thesis aims to highlight the significance of make-up in the spheres of theatre
and cinematography and to analyse the different tools used for each different technique. Going through the Seventh Art of Cinema, a historical retrospective is made to detail its influence on people's daily lives but also the influence of society on it. In addition, it attempts to attribute the importance of lighting to the makeup of a theatrical
play, as well as to analyze the influence of the cinema makeup on the proper use of different films.

| Abstract: | Η παρούσα πτυχιακή εργασία πραγματεύεται την εξέλιξη του θεατρικού και κινηματογραφικού μακιγιάζ, την σχέση που υφίσταται ανάμεσα στις δύο έννοιες αλλά και τον τρόπο με τον οποίο αυτές επηρέασαν και επηρεάστηκαν από τις οικονομικές, κοινωνικές και πολιτικές συνθήκες της κάθε εποχής. Σκοπός της είναι η ιστορική
αναδρομή γενικά στο μακιγιάζ και ειδικότερα στο μακιγιάζ θεάτρου και κινηματογράφου, για την ανάδειξη της ισχυρής σχέσης αλληλεξάρτησης ανάμεσα στην κοινωνική, πολιτική και οικονομική πραγματικότητα της κάθε εποχής και την Τέχνη, καθώς η τελευταία αναφέρεται και, τις περισσότερες φορές, αντιγράφει την ίδια τη ζωή. Στόχος της είναι η ανάδειξη της σημασίας του μακιγιάζ για το θέατρο και τον κινηματογράφο και η ανάλυση των διαφορετικών εργαλείων υλοποίησης της κάθε τεχνικής. Περνώντας στην έβδομη Τέχνη, αυτή του κινηματογράφου, πραγματοποιείται ιστορική αναδρομή για την λεπτομερή απόδοση της επιρροής του στην καθημερινή ζωή
των ανθρώπων αλλά και για τον επηρεασμό του ιδίου από την ίδια την κοινωνία. Επιπροσθέτως, επιχειρείται η απόδοση της σημασίας του φωτισμού για το μακιγιάζ μίας θεατρικής παράστασης αλλά και η ανάλυση του επηρεασμού του μακιγιάζ κινηματογράφου από την κατάλληλη χρήση των διαφορετικών φιλμς.
