This paper examines the ways in which local governments could prevent and tackle the student dropout problem by harnessing the power of marketing in the field of public education. More specifically, the Municipality of Ampelokipoi-Menemeni, in collaboration with the educational community and other stakeholders will develop concrete actions in order to reduce school dropout. The suggested comprehensive three-year marketing plan, proposed to be implemented as a pilot project in a selected high school of the area, was the outcome of an extensive bibliographic review and the results of an empirical research that took place in the secondary education schools of the municipality – an action deemed necessary by the author. The actions of the plan have been selected on the basis of their innovation elements or as proven best practices for enhancing students' attendance in schools. The implementation of this plan is expected to produce good results and to serve as a model for future expansion to other schools as well. This specific initiative taken by the Municipality encourages the educational community to collaborate in order to meet the needs of the pupils and their parents and to improve the quality of the provided education. Furthermore, it introduces positive changes in the management of student dropout problem. The utilization of educational marketing strategies and synergies in order to tackle complex social problems is among the most up-to-date trends of our time and in line with the directions given by the European Union.
