OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the opinion of the Greek consumers, regarding the nutritional labels on products. METHOD: The overall survey, was based on a 1200 people statistical sample of consumers, incurred through random sampling. The sample consists of women and men over the age of 18. The research methodology used was that of a questionnaire with open and closed questions. The purpose of questionnaire is to investigate consumer’s knowledge, opinion and attitude around the labeling and nutrition food labels. Data’s collection was took place from December 2017 to January 2018. Their statistical analysis followed. RESULTS: Statistical analysis has shown that women are more affected than men by the nutrition information on the food packaging label. In addition, younger consumers as well as elderly people do not read so often the basic food label information when they buy a product for the first time. As far as the educational level is concerned, it has been shown that people who have graduated from a high school or university are affected by the nutrition information of the food labels because they are more interested in eating properly than lower-educated consumers. Also, consumers who exercise more, seem to buy more often foods according to their nutritional value. Physical activity is an incentive for adopting a more healthy eating behavior. It is also noteworthy that low-income consumers spend less money on their purchases while at the same time consumers with higher income are less affected by the purchase price of food. Finally, the trend towards creating more modern and readable food labels allows consumer information to be easier to understand.
