Teachers--Attitudes/ Χατζούλα, Βάϊα

This thesis refers to the institution of all-day schools according to the Unified Reformed Educational Program (UREP). It occurred due to the necessity of recording the teachers’ opinions who work in these schools, according to their experience, with regards to the organization and operation of this institution, as well as the achievement of the all-day schools objectives. The New School role has become a need for educational change and innovation owing to the post-war changes that happened across Europe and by extension to our country. The study was carried out among educators (mostly primary school teachers) in thirty all-day primary schools with UREP of the Regional Directorate of Education of Western Macedonia. The questionnaires were distributed to the participants and were gathered in order to evaluate and process them using the SPSS statistical packet. This study results showed that the teachers evaluated the institution as sustainable. However, they pointed out that there are improvement and reorganization prospects. Concerning the four objectives that were examined, it was considered not to have been achieved to a great extent. Furthermore, the teachers were informed about the purpose and objectives of the All-Day School according to the UREP and showed that they were willing to apply this innovation. In the first place, social inequalities are not alleviated, equality of educational opportunities is not guaranteed through this institution and the "parallel education" is not restricted, which has been a key issue. Students do not acquire the skills they need for their smooth integration into life, in addition it deprives them from completing the learning process and school activity as it was set as an objective since the beginning of the institution operation. Regarding the teachers’ cooperation, it is considered to be important to them, however in their opinion, there is not sufficient support from the Education Administration. The collaboration with the school counselor was considered to be less effective. All things considered, the All-Day School is a form of education which is very effective in today's society with the resulting socio-economic needs; however, better preparation, organization and support from the State as well is essential.
