The purpose of the present dissertation is to design and develop a smart home. The term smart home refers to building automation for a home, where home appliances are connected and offer residents the ability to control them by distance. The present project has a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part includes the definition and characteristics of the smart home, as well as a discussion of the conclusions drawn from the completion of the project. In addition, the design and steps of the construction of the smart home are presented in detail. The practical part of the project involved creating a remote-controlled environment using a microcontroller. The smart home was represented with the use of a plexiglass model. A website was developed, offering the end-user the ability to control the home environment (e.g. electrical and electronic devices, temperature, and other appliances) remotely with the use of the Internet.
