ABSTRACT:
This postgraduate thesis aims to explore the existence of excellence and its role in shaping educational policies. At the same time, the factors that contribute to its achievement in the educational environment, and the variables that promote excellence and equal opportunities, are important. The presentation of ten Secondary education teachers of the prefecture of Thessaloniki and six parents is presented. The primary data of the survey were obtained by the method of a personal semistructured interview. Although “excellence” is not defined by a clear and specific definition as a concept, it has been found that it is universally accepted in the educational process. The role of school and teachers has been proved to be a catalyst in fostering a climate of excellence. Developing educational policies that promote excellence is linked to individual improvement of students, to the existence of equal educational opportunities and to the prosperity of national and economic indicators.
