Η αξιολόγηση των εκπαιδευτικών σε επίπεδο σχολικής μονάδας ως μέσo βελτίωσης της παρεχόμενης ποιότητας εκπαίδευσης: (Master thesis)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the extent to which teachers’ evaluation, within the
framework of the human resources management in the schools, contributes to the improvement of the
quality of the educational work. In order to meet the goal, a review of the Greek and international
literature was conducted, on the way in which evaluation as a process and evaluation systems
contribute to the improvement of the education provided and to the enhancement of the student
outcomes. A primary quantitative survey was then carried out using a structured questionnaire with
closed questions in a sample of 115 primary and secondary teachers in Thessaloniki region in order
to explore teachers views and attitudes towards the evaluation process and the different evaluation
systems, as well as the extent to which the educational assessment contributes to improving the
quality of the educational work. The results showed that teachers generally have a positive attitude
towards the evaluation process. Although teachers believe that assessment contributes to their
professional development, they also believe that it contributes to the limitation of pedagogical
freedom and their passive compliance. There was also a significant agreement on views on the
contribution of teacher evaluation to the improvement of education and teaching methods in general.
Research findings are useful for policy-makers to design systems and implement evaluation
policies that will be accepted by Greek teachers and will meet their professional development needs.
Only in this way could an educational evaluation system be established in Greece in the future and
really contribute to improving the quality of the educational work
