The present study was designed to investigate consumer knowledge and attitudes about the labeling and nutrition labeling of foods and to compare its results with other pre-existing surveys. This research took place in various regions of Greece, with Thessaloniki having primary position. The survey involved 1,200 people, women and men. These individuals received questionnaires on labeling and nutrition labeling in the spring semester of 2018. The analysis of the survey was carried out using the Statistical Package for Social Science(SPSS).The results of our research show that consumers are looking for food data such as expiration dates and declare that elements such as the appearance, smell and taste of their product affect the choice of product. In addition, consumers are interested in the presence of additives in the food while there is less interest in the way the food is preserved or processed. Nine out of ten consumers know that it is mandatory to indicate the composition of the food on the packaging and the overwhelming majority of the sample notes that it reads the basic information of a product it buys for the first time often or always. As far as the improvement of food labels is concerned, consumers believe that labels should be used in simpler words to make them more comprehensible.
