Ο ρόλος των οργανισμών τοπικής αυτοδιοίκησης στην εκπαίδευση (Master thesis)

Purpose: The aim of this paper is to investigate the relation between local government and
education. In particular, there is a reference to the roles and responsibilities of local
authorities, as well as to the public participation bodies. One of the questions that arise is
whether the school is able to meet its needs through the contribution of local government. It
lists the problems, the malfunctions of each institution, proposes solutions for the most
effective relation between the institutions. The research will be carried out in the framework
of a bibliographic review, a questionnaire and diagrams, in order to identify in a percentage
the functionality of the institutions.
Methodology: In order to achieve the aim of the work, a survey was carried out in Greece in
primary school directors of the prefecture of Fthiotida. The questionnaire method, which
consisted of 22 closed-ended questions, was used. Respondents were asked to choose one of
the offered answers.
Findings: The largest proportion in the role of manager is female and between the ages of 51
and 60 and has graduated from a higher education institution. Fewer hold a postgraduate
diploma. The total length of service of directors in education is between 16 and 25 years and
the service in a managerial position ranges to 5 years. There is a high degree of co-operation
between the director and school committees to resolve economic issues. With regard to the
co-operation between the two above it seems to be moving at a low rate. However, managers
are interested in getting informed about the activities of the school. There is a personal form
of communication concerning problem solving of the school, as well as the political
leadership of OTA can show interest in any problems. About a similar percentage is the
cooperation of the school committee, the director with OTA. and the school committee with
local government seems to work together to solve problems. The level of financing of OTAs.
in schools is in an intermediate rate.
Originality/value: One of the most important contributions of this study is the exploration of
the relation between the directors / pupils and the local government and the general
educational policy. Through this research, we present proposals not only to solve the
problems of the school units but also to inquire further scientific research that will help
develop and diversify the educational process in social and political life
