Through the teachings of Art, that is known as "aesthetic education", the school contributes to the child's development in a holistic way. In particular, with art education, Primary School aims to cultivate its creativity, imagination and through the enhancement of its socialization and personality, the aim is the development of a complete student, the appreciation of the artistic heritage and finally the connection of the art with everyday life. In the present study, an attempt is being made to explore the role and position of "visual arts" in the modern Greek educational system and in particular in primary education, through the views that teachers have shaped both general teachers and teachers of arts courses. More specifically, we are interested in their view of the importance of "art education", the role played by visual arts in contemporary school, the way that teachers are involved in teaching, their methodological approach, the difficulties they face in their lessons and whether they consider their education to be adequate in relation to the subject. The ultimate goal of the work is to highlight the views of teachers on the role of the "visual arts" lesson in primary education in order to investigate the causes that lead to the potential degradation of the course, as opposed to the real dimensions of its pedagogical value. Work is completed in two parts. The first (theoretical framework) includes the presentation of modern scientific views on the dynamic relationship between education and visual arts, as well as the theoretical background of the necessity and the offer of visual arts to students. It also presents the purpose of visual arts lessons, a brief historical retrospection of artistic education, elements of teacher education, as well as some suggestions of international networks for teaching the lesson. The second (empirical part) begins with an overview of the starting point, purpose and objectives of the research. After the methodology has been decided and the validity and reliability of the research are examined, the presentation and analysis of the data and the discussion of its research findings are presented. The study is completed with the presentation of bibliography and annexes (questionnaires and interviews of teachers).
