Abstract: Rural tourism in Greece is structured around two types of firms: private enterprises and women’s rural tourism cooperatives. These two types of firms have played an important role in the development of rural tourism in Greece as well as in the promotion of the social and economic role of women in the countryside. This paper examines the differences between private enterprises and women’s cooperatives in a sample of 198 women’s private firms and cooperatives. The relevant descriptive statistics show that there are significant differences between the two types of firms both on the level of planning and organization, as well as that of management
