Total Quality Management composes a management framework which has as its ulterior goal the improvement through a continuous and dynamic process in which the majority of the school community is involved, in order to spot the positive points, the weaknesses and the needs connected with the work of the school unit. This process is considered the foundation of the proper scheduling and planning of educational work, as well as the implementation of activities that contribute to the total improvement of the educational organization. The analysis conducted for this dissertation aims at investigating the degree of adoption of the Total Quality Management principles in Special Education School Units. This takes place through the evaluation of the key TQM criteria which are Leadership, Human Resources, Collaborations and Resources, Procedures and Strategies and Policies as they quoted in the European Excellence Model EFQM. This dissertation starts with an introductory quotation of the basic concepts of Management, Quality and the total definition of Total Quality Management. Next, the theoretical explanation of Total Quality Management is given, where the criteria and indicators are analyzed, while the analysis continues with the implementation of Total Quality Management in School Units of Special Education, which constitute the basic research field of this dissertation. The dissertation continues with the presentation of the Model of Excellence of the European Quality Assurance Agency, which constitutes the basic methodological tool of the research. The research methodology is presented in the last section, where the steps and the methodological analysis as well as the statistical tools are quoted, followed by the results of the statistical processing and the conclusions where the limitations as well the scopes for future research are included. The research findings attribute the significance of the quality criteria of the Excellence Model for the Greek Special Education Units.
