Cellulite is a skin condition that affects many women and has significant effects on the physical as well as the psychological health The purpose of the present study is to describe the clinical picture and causes of cellulite, as well as to identify ways to treat it. The main clinical feature of cellulite is the appearance of the orange peel, and its severity varies among women. Hormones play a dominant role in the formation of cellulite, as women during menopause and in pregnancy tend to develop more cellulite. Cellulite is treated in many ways, such as with topical treatments, energy devices (lasers, phototherapy, etc.), injectable treatments (mesotherapy, skin fillers), massage and with proper nutrition and exercise. Radio frequency devices, laser technology, and acoustic wave therapy appear to be the most effective at present, but have not been shown to have significant long-term effects. Greater understanding of the pathophysiology of cellulite is needed in order develop more targeted therapies in the future.
