Implementation of marketing principles aimed at reducing Roma school leavers and dropouts. Case of West Thessaloniki schools (Bachelor thesis)

This project aims to study the Roma education and their daily presence in the Greek Primary Schools. Firstly, I will try to investigate the attitudes and perceptions of the Roma families, as far as the study of their children is concerned and, secondly, to identify the factors that negatively contribute to their education while also looking at aspects of their daily lives. This approach will be applied through the theoretical part that consists of five chapters , where a bibliographic inquiry is attempted upon the educational marketing, the culture of consumer behavior, the definition of school drop-out and its effects, as well as, the factors that unfortunately promote it, and finally, the implemented practices or the ones proposed as solutions in order to improve the education of these students. Then, through a qualitative research, there will be a thorough investigation of the cases of the Primary schools in the western regions of Thessaloniki, where Roma students attend lessons and it is a matter that really concerns the educational community. Last but not least, the school directors’ points of view will be examined and seriously taken into account regarding to the school marketing and its contribution to the educational quality improvement of the Romas, the factors that negatively affect their school attendance, the school attitudes towards them and finally the future practices that may limit or\and even eliminate them.
