Η επαγγελματική εξουθένωση και επαγγελματική ικανοποίηση των εκπαιδευτικών πρωτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης (Bachelor thesis)

The present study investigates the levels of occupational exhaustion and satisfaction in 122 primary and special education teachers in relation to their demographic characteristics. Two tools, Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and Spector Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS), were used to collect the data. The results showed that teachers experience moderate levels of burnout while their levels of job satisfaction are moderate. Teachers also exhibit moderate levels of emotional exhaustion, moderate levels of self-esteem, and moderate levels of personal achievement. In terms of job satisfaction, low levels result from salary, promotion prospects and extra benefits. Moderately satisfying are the operating conditions and potential benefits, while supervision, the nature of the work, colleagues and communication are sources of high professional satisfaction for teachers. Gender, age, years of service, educational attainment, position of responsibility, working relationship and type of employment did not significantly differentiate levels of occupational exhaustion, but specialty and marital status appear to have some effect. The consequences of burnout (poor mood and indifference to work, lack of patience with students, professional stagnation, refusal to cooperate with a principal, colleagues, parents and students, serious health problems, etc.) ,were also mentioned in order for the teacher to leave the job satisfied (recognition of his / her work, prospects for promotion and remuneration, pleasant working environment, love of students, etc.).
