Counseling and multicultural counseling: Primary schoolteacher's views of prefecture of Drama on the school counselor skills (Bachelor thesis)

The present thesis aims to explore the primary school teachers’ opinions of Drama concerning the multicultural skill of the school counselor within the context of the class.
The findings of this research show that the teachers’ attendance in seminars concerning the counseling and multicultural management of the students has a severe impact on their perception of the school counselor’s counseling skills. The factors influencing the opinion that the teachers hold regarding the counselor’s intercultural skill are the following: their participation in seminars concerning intercultural class management, the counselor’s general intercultural awareness and skills as well as his awareness on giving counseling. One last factor seems to be the awareness of the existing obstacles related with the fulfillment of the counseling services.
The research tool used for the purposes of this study was the Greek translation of the MCCT questionnaire (Multicultural Counseling Competence and Training) of Holcomb- McCoy & Meyers (1999) employed by Moutou’s research in 2012, which was paraphrased in the third person so as to cater the purposes of the present survey.

| Abstract: | Στόχος της συγκεκριμένης εργασίας είναι να διερευνηθούν οι απόψεις των εκπαιδευτικών πρωτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης της περιοχής της Δράμας για πολυπολιτισμική ικανότητα του συμβούλου εντός της σχολικής τάξης. Τα ευρήματα της έρευνας δείχνουν πως οι παράγοντες που επηρεάζουν τη γνώμη που έχουν οι εκπαιδευτικοί σχετικά με τη διαπολιτισμική ικανότητα του σχολικού συμβούλου είναι η παρακολούθηση από τους ίδιους σεμιναρίων διαπολιτισμικής διαχείρισης των μαθητών, η παρακολούθηση από τους ίδιους σεμιναρίων συμβουλευτικής, η πολυπολιτισμική επίγνωση του συμβούλου, η πολυπολιτισμική επίγνωση σε ζητήματα συμβουλευτικής, οι πολυπολιτισμικές του δεξιότητες και η γνώση των υφιστάμενων εμποδίων για την εκπλήρωση του συμβουλευτικού του έργου.
Το ερευνητικό εργαλείο που χρησιμοποιήθηκε ήταν η ελληνική μετάφραση του ερωτηματολογίου MCCT (Multicultural Counseling Competence and Training) των Holcomb-McCoy & Meyers (1999) που χρησιμοποιήθηκε στην έρευνα της Μούτου (2012) και παραφράστηκε στο τρίτο ενικό πρόσωπο για να εξυπηρετήσει τους σκοπούς της έρευνας. Στην έρευνα συμμετείχαν 128 εκπαιδευτικοί της πρωτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης της Δράμας.
Τα αποτελέσματα της έρευνας έδειξαν πως η συμμετοχή των εκπαιδευτικών σε σεμινάρια που σχετίζονται με τη συμβουλευτική και με την πολυπολιτισμική διαχείριση των μαθητών έχει σημαντική επίδραση στην αντίληψη της συμβουλευτικής ικανότητας του σχολικού συμβούλου. Αντίστοιχα, οι παράγοντες που επηρεάζουν την αντίληψη των εκπαιδευτικών σχετικά με την πολυπολιτισμική ικανότητα του συμβούλου είναι η πολυπολιτισμική επίγνωση του συμβούλου, η πολυπολιτισμική επίγνωση της συμβουλευτικής, οι πολυπολιτισμικές δεξιότητες του συμβούλου όπως επίσης και η γνώση των εμποδίων που εμφανίζονται στην διαδικασία της πολυπολιτισμικής συμβουλευτικής.
