Introduction: The metabolic syndrome is absolutely connected with both the Mediterranean diet and its benefits. The development of the metabolic syndrome is associated with the maintenance of the Mediterranean diet. Main purpose: The main purpose of this dissertation is the probe of the adoption of the Mediterranean diet and of the differences that somebody can notice between the population who suffers by the metabolic syndrome and the healthy population in the north parts of Greece. Material-Process: Comparative study between patients and witnesses. The sample of this study was 80 people. 40 of them was not suffering by the metabolic syndrome (witness group) and 40 was people with this syndrome (patients group). For this study, as a research tool was used the Mediterranean Dietary Serving Score for the listing of the nutritional habits. The statistic process was accomplished with the statistic program SPSS v21. Results: The average age of the sample under study was 51,16 years. The average tag of body mass index of the sample was 29,56. The existence of metabolic syndrome it is heavily associated on a statistics base with the respondents’ age (p=0,00), the body mass index (p=0,00), the fat percentage (p=0,00) and the Mediterranean diet index (p=0,00) Conclusions: The existence of metabolic syndrome has a decisive effect not only on the maintenance of the Mediterranean diet but is also an important factor in shaping clinical features of major importance for the management of the disease.
