The findings of the present comparative study of candidates’ performance on the Pan-Hellenic exams of Mathematics provide insights for the improvement of the current teaching methods and the quality of the subject content tested on these national exams. According to the Presidential Decree 60/2006 titled Evaluation of General High School students, “Students’ evaluation is an integral part of the teaching practice. It aims to define the outcomes of the teaching objectives set by the current curriculum for each school subject. Moreover, it ought to provide feedback to the teacher’s work and the applied teaching ensuring its ongoing improvement and efficiency.” On this basis, this research is specifically concerned on the students’ performance on the Pan-Hellenic exams of Mathematics in the school year 2016 and 2017, their success rates and the relevance of the tested subject content with the school textbooks in order to explore the reliability and the efficiency of the teaching.
