This postgraduate thesis deals with the identification key of the freshwater fish of Greece and concerns the digitization of the paper by Mr Eugene G. Maurakis and Panos S. Economidis published in 2003. The need arose on the one hand that the printed keys after a number of questions did not become functional in use and on the other that when the fish species of search was found, then there was only a brief description of it. Following the identification of all 98 scientific names of the fish species of the printed key from five global databases, a website was created containing all the necessary and complete information on them. The electronic identification key allows the user to search all species in the Database as well as to correct any selection during the process of species identification. Modern tools have been used to implement the website, MySQL, PHP, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap as well as JavaScript, jQuery and Ajax, so it can be easily updated, responsive to current needs, and adaptable to any type of monitor (fixed or laptop as well as a mobile or tablet screen). The electronic key is now a useful tool, both in the hands of an Ichthyologist and any other user, because it makes the process of identifying of a species very easy as it has been further enriched with information and images from the original printed key.
