Σχολικός εκφοβισμός, ένα φαινόμενο με κοινωνικές διαστάσεις: απόψεις και στάσεις εκπαιδευτικών Α/θμιας εκπαίδευσης του νομού Χίου (Master thesis)
Bullying has been systematically researched over the past years, as far as its strong relation to human nature is concerned. It is a timeless, versatile and multifactorial social problem which can deeply affect the normal development and progress of a child. The current survey was conducted on primary school teachers in the prefecture of Chios, with the aim to explore their attitudes and views on an incident of bullying. The research consists of six chapters, the first of which focuses on a bibliographic overview. An attempt is made to approach the phenomenon, to clarify the term “bullying”, the process, the forms it takes and where it occurs. In the second chapter the phenomenon is specifically approached in primary education with reference to its general characteristics and the features of the perpetrator, the victim and the observer. Effects of the phenomenon, teachers' attitudes and intervention strategies to address it, are deployed as well. The legislative framework on bullying in both Greece and the European Union is also cited. Research methodology and objectives as well as queries form the third chapter. The fourth chapter attempts to analyze and present the results of the survey through descriptive statistics and in the fifth an inductive statistical analysis follows. In the final and sixth chapter the presentation of the conclusions of the theoretical and empirical part and proposals for further research are included. It was concluded that teachers in the prefecture of Chios have fully consolidated the concept of school bullying and their role and responsibility to address it effectively at school. In addition, they feel that their alertness to deal with the phenomenon needs to be enhanced through training by specialized scientists. Finally, they reinforce the role of the headmaster when dealing with an incident if they consider their intervention important.
