Stress was and still is a natural phenomenon of people's everyday lives. The current
world is full of stressful situations: one can feel anxious when there is a lot of work in
his office and another may feel restless when he has to buy a gift for a particular person.
The profession of teacher could not be an exception, as teachers' anxiety is today a
major international issue and the plethora of research published so far is indicative of
this interest. The purpose of this research is to investigate some of the basic dimensions
of the professional stress of primary and secondary school managers in Greece and to
integrate the results of the relevant research into the available research data on the topics
under consideration. More specifically, the purpose of this research is to investigate
sources of anxiety for managers of primary and secondary education in Greece, the
symptoms and effects of stress on managers' work and the strategies that managers use
to deal with anxiety. The study was conducted in a sample of 130 directors in western
Thessaloniki and the results are consistent with previous research, highlighting the
importance of fighting stress in this group of Stress was and still is a natural
