Ο ρόλος του διευθυντή σχολικής μονάδας πρωτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης στο πλαίσιο της επικοινωνίας με το εξωτερικό περιβάλλον του σχολείου: Η περίπτωση του νομού Κιλκίς (Master thesis)
Communication, which constitutes the cornerstone of interpersonal relations, is closely connected with school administrators and takes place in both the internal and external environment of school units. In light of this, the subject matter of this research study is to explore the role of primary school principals in relation to communicating with the external environment of the school (students’ parents and guardians, schools on the same or different stage, and local community institutions). Specifically, this study examines the views of 30 Elementary School Principals/Directors in the Prefecture of Kilkis, with respect to how they perceive their role in communicating with the external environment of the school and the significance which they attribute to this communication. Moreover, it examines the actions which principals seek to collaborate with the external environment of the school as well as the problems that occur during this communication process. A qualitative research study was conducted comprising semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions. This specific research method was selected with the aim of analysing data in depth. The conclusions drawn proved to be exceptional. Firstly, it was noticed that the principals’ role consists in representing the school so that they connect it with the wider society and in collaborating with various institutions so that problems arising within the school unit are resolved and the educational process is advanced. It was additionally concluded that communication taking place in the external environment of the school is particularly important for opening up the school unit to the society and that parents, local community institutions, and other schools have a positive contribution to the school’s function. Finally, it was concluded that most problems arising in the process of communication with the external environment of the school unit derive from interactions between the school’s leadership and students’ parents and guardians.
