Αξιολόγηση προγραμμάτων σπουδών μαθηματικών Γυμνασίου: Η περίπτωση της Γεωμετρίας (Master thesis)

The purpose of this paper is to investigate, study, analyse and evaluate the curriculum of mathematics, with a focus on the field of Geometry, as a teaching subject. To achieve the purpose of the survey, content analysis of the greek curriculum, the teaching instructions sent to the teachers and the school books of the Gymnasium was carried out in order to investigate the clarity of the aims and goals, the compatibility and adequacy of the individual parameters with a view to student learning in the Gymnasium. Moreover, the study has attempted to highlight the potential problems associated with the teaching of Geometry and for this reason, the research process includes a small number of semi-structured interviews with teachers of Mathematics in the region of Serres, in order to further explore the question under investigation and to provide an opportunity for an extra perspective in the conclusions drawn from the content analysis. At the same time, in the context of the study, a literature review was carried out to highlight the importance of teaching Mathematics, and especially Geometry, in Gymnasium as well as the attitude of students towards it, while also presenting curricula existing in other countries. According to the results of the content analysis there seem to be problems and shortcomings in terms of the Geometry teaching, which are also identified by the teachers during the interviews. Given the importance and pedagogical value of this subject in modern Greek schools, it is proposed to further explore the issue in the context of another research.
