Κλίμα και τουριστική βιομηχανία (Bachelor thesis)

Λάκκας, Πέτρος

The following senior thesis is divided into two basic units. In the first unit we study how climate changes and environment affect tourist activity. First of all, we make a small reference on the definition of tourism and its evolutionary course over the centuries, then there is a small analysis at to what is climate change, what are the causes and consequences, afterwards we mention some of the measures that the E.U. has taken to protect the environment and as a conclusion we cite the results of this first units’ research in the form of nine examples. In the second unit, we see the topic from a different viewpoint. Here we study the impacts of tourist activity on the environment. To begin with, we make a small description of the two most well-known ecological and non-ecological forms of tourism, then we make a reference to the meaning and fields of application of sustainability, after that we present eight of the most popular sustainability certifications for hotels (and other buildings) and as a conclusion we refer to some examples of hotels and travel agencies that have been sustainably certified. And lastly, to the annexes of this paper there is a relevant questionnaire that has been answered by students of Alexander TEI and also other people.
