The formal paper discusses the issue of tourism development in Greece, with case study the city of Thessaloniki. At the beginning, there is a brief reference to the concepts of tourism, tourist and touristic product. Afterwards, there is a reference to the concept of development. Subsequently, the alternative forms of tourism are presented. After the in depth examination of the alternative forms of tourism, data and information are shown, concerning tourism development in the world, in Greece and in Thessaloniki. At the end of this paper, conclusions are drawn regarding the development of alternative tourism in Greece in general and in Thessaloniki in particular.

| Abstract: | Η παρούσα εργασία πραγματεύεται το θέμα της τουριστικής ανάπτυξης στην Ελλάδα, με μελέτη περίπτωσης την Θεσσαλονίκη. Στην αρχή γίνεται μια σύντομη αναφορά στις έννοιες του τουρισμού, του τουρίστα και του τουριστικού προϊόντος. Ακολουθεί η αναφορά στην έννοια της ανάπτυξης. Στη συνέχεια, παρουσιάζονται οι εναλλακτικές μορφές τουρισμού. Αφού εξεταστούν αναλυτικά οι εναλλακτικές μορφές τουρισμού, παρουσιάζονται στοιχεία και πληροφορίες που αφορούν την τουριστική ανάπτυξη στον κόσμο, στην Ελλάδα και στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Έπειτα, αναλύονται οι εναλλακτικές μορφές τουρισμού οι οποίες αναπτύσσονται στην περιοχή της Θεσσαλονίκης. Στο τέλος της εργασίας δίνονται τα συμπεράσματα σχετικά με την ανάπτυξη του εναλλακτικού τουρισμού γενικότερα στην Ελλάδα και ειδικότερα στην περιοχή της Θεσσαλονίκης.
