Medical tourism is a rapidly developing form of alternative tourism internationally, resulting from the combination of Tourism and medical science. This paper has as its main object the Medical Tourism and consists of three sections. The main goal of this work is the analysis of the concepts associated with medical tourism in order to investigate the mode of exploitation of and contribution to broader domestic economic growth. First and foremost, there will be a thorough study and identification of the basic concepts and issues related to health tourism, and medical tourism. Then, we studied in-depth the medical tourism and will be a reference of the main benefits and elements of, while in the third and last part will present the available data relating to the development of this form of tourism in Greece. In other words, the potential for development will be approached, the swot analysis, the target markets and the benefits to be derived will be presented. the possibilities of development and the services provided, with emphasis on rehabilitation and recovery services. The main objective of this study is on the one hand, to analyze the concepts associated with this alternative form of tourism, but also to show this phenomenon at a global and national level in order to investigate whether the proper exploitation can contribute to sustainable tourism and, more generally, economic development of a country.
