Lab As A Service (LaaS) (Bachelor thesis)

This dissertation aims to analyze the LaaS service, as well as to evaluate open source solutions. Cloud is originally analyzed as a technology and its features, its historical background, the service models developed around it, its advantages and disadvantages, the security that governs it, as well as particular reference is made at the most common Cloud Services providers .
Then reference is made to the LaaS service. A historical retrospection shows the course from conventional laboratories to Cloud Laboratories. Following, the study of open source solutions for Universities and the benefits of the Service are analyzed.
Finally, I compare the existing solutions of the LaaS Service in order to find out what is appropriate for implementation.

| Abstract: | Η πτυχιακή εργασία έχει ως στόχο την ανάλυση της υπηρεσίας LaaS, καθώς και την αξιολόγηση των open source λύσεων. Αναλύεται αρχικά, το Cloud ως τεχνολογία, δηλαδή, τα χαρακτηριστικά του, η ιστορική αναδρομή του, τα μοντέλα υπηρεσιών που αναπτύσσονται γύρω απ’ αυτό, πλεονεκτήματα – μειονεκτήματα, η ασφάλεια που το διέπει, καθώς και γίνεται ιδιαίτερη μνεία στους πιο διαδεδομένους παρόχους Cloud Υπηρεσιών.
Έπειτα, γίνεται αναφορά στην υπηρεσία LaaS. Γίνεται μια ιστορική αναδρομή από τα συμβατικά εργαστήρια ως τα Cloud εργαστήρια. Ακολουθά η μελέτη των open source λύσεων για τα Πανεπιστήμια και αναλύονται τα πλεονεκτήματα της Υπηρεσίας.
Τέλος, γίνεται η συγκριτική μελέτη των υφιστάμενων λύσεων της Υπηρεσίας LaaS, ώστε να καταλήξουμε ποια είναι η κατάλληλη για εφαρμογή.
