The purpose of the thesis was the measuring of radon concentration within indoor environments in Thessaloniki, the construction of radon sources with the use of radon Ra-226 source templates as well as their use for the calibration of radon measurement tools, the comparison of data from two radon measurement tools and finally the calibration of the sensitivity index of each of the one compared to the data of the other. More specifically, the measurement tools that were used were the Alpha Guard detector and the Pylon detector in data sample reception mode and in continuous mode. Results showed that the radon concentration in Thessaloniki is below dangerous limits. It was proven that the radon source templates are not suitable for the creation of radon sources due to their coverage with the protective layer and the use of Phosphogypsum Is suggested. It was found that the Pylon detector is able and reliable for the sample reception mode, while it cannot follow rapid changes in continuous mode. The reliability of the Pylon detector for the continuous mode should be evaluated according to the measurement expectations, since the average absolute data error in relation to the Alpha guard detector was high. In addition, sensitivity indexes were calculated for the Pylon detector , both in continuous and sample reception mode, taking as report concentrations the Alpha Guard detector measurements.
