Η διατροφική αγωγή ως μέσο πρόληψης και αποκατάστασης της υγείας του δέρματος (Bachelor thesis)

Γρεβενίτου, Ευαγγελία

Since ancient years proper nutrition was considered particularly important and it was well known that many diseases are related to the diet that someone is following. Hippocrates in 400 BC says: "All diseases come from the intestine," while still older a Traditional Chinese Medicine saying goes: "The root of good and bad health dwells in the intestine." Microflora is therefore one of the key factors contributing to the emergence of many diseases such as diabetes, obesity and autism, and the best way to maintain a balanced microflora in the intestine is through proper nutrition. While the bowel is considered the source of all diseases, skin is characterized as the mirror of the mental and physical health of every human being. Almost all diseases have external manifestations on the skin. Additionally, many skin’s disorders causes are related to organism’s general disorders, such as diabetes or anxiety. Therefore, nutrition plays a very important role in the health of skin, since it reflects the health of the whole organism. Today, many researches are focused on discovering foods that can improve the structure and function of the skin. Thus, a balanced diet with emphasis on such foods can help restore skin health naturally or in addition to medication for faster healing. The purpose of this work is to collect information that relates nutrition to skin health. To this end, the data is divided into three main categories: general nutritional advice, foods that are recommended to be avoided and foods that help restore skin health
