This diploma thesis contains the strategic planning of development of specific forms of tourism on the Regional Unity of Pieria. First of all, its aim is toexaminethetheoreticalframeworkofstrategicplanning,then the specific forms of tourism. As wellastoexploreandanalyzethetourismofPieria and its SWOT analysis, especially in the SIT. Also to designastrategicdevelopment plan and come up to useful conclusions and recommendations. The first chapter presents the basic concepts of strategic planning, notions and definitions, with reference to the literature and documentation. The second chapter continues with the presentation of the theoretical approaches regarding tourism and its development, the forms and typesofspecialandalternative forms of tourism. The third chapter contains an analytical approach to the existing development of tourist destination in Pieria,detailinggeographic,social,economicandenvironmental data. In addition to analyze the statistical data of the tourist activity, highlighting the large number of visitors and the measurements of seasonality within the arrivals and in tourism accommodation mainly in the coastal zone. Here is the citation of the crucial tourism resources of the IP creating the impression of possibilities in developing specific forms of tourism, which mainly shows the development of mass tourism. To continue with the SWOT analysis of the specific forms of tourism in the area, so as to show the comparative advantages of Pieria. The next chapter presents the Proposal for Development of the Strategic Plan for the development of specific forms of tourism with concrete proposals and actions for tourism development. The key strategy is to protect and enhance the tourist resources of Pieria, to exploit them and preserve the environment. Also to develop specific forms of tourism in the rural areas making it an attractive tourist destination. Pieria is a mass tourism destination, making baby steps in alternative tourism, but has great potential and prospects, and throughtheproposedprojectemphasisisplacedonthedevelopmentof special forms of tourism that can revitalize the destination and make it attractive.
