The purpose of this graduation project was to understand how the computerized automation systems operate and to get familiar with the methods they use. Meanwhile, it was a test of our skills and knowledge about automation engineering, as it concerns study and research but also creation and construction. Applying the knowledge we acquired at school and reclaiming all the information that we gained through these years, we managed to materialize this project, achieving at the same time to enrich our field of knowledge by searching, studying and overcoming any obstacle that came out through all the stages of our project’s implementation. The achievement of the above goals came through the use of the open-source electronic platform Arduino. The connection of this microcontroller with the other parts of our device and its programming gave the final result of our construction. For the creation of our device we also used a bread board (raster), a GSM shield, a SIM card, a motion sensor and a temperature sensor. So, we created a smart home system in scale and remote control with GSM that communicates with user’s cell-phone. In conclusion, we built an automation system that is able to adapt to a smart home and respond to human’s modern needs, in this case to the need for quality assurance and innovative protection of his private place against internal and external danger. Specifically, our smart system notifies its user, by sending SMS message at his phone, for dangerous temperature rise or for possible suspicious move inside the home
