This paper aims to check the teachers’ aspect regarding the new framework of selecting the headteachers of elementary education (N. 4473/2017). A questionnaire from the Bakalbasis and Fokas’ paper (2014) was used for the selection of the data, which was answered by 135 respondents, teachers of elementary education. To illustrate the results of the survey methods of descriptive and inductive statistics were used. To analyze the data, methods of descriptive statistics were used, whereas for the examination of exploratory proposition, the non parametric procedures Mann- Whitney U-test and Kruskal-Wallis were used. In addition, the correlation between the variables was examined with the use of the Spearman’s non parametric index of correlation. The results of the paper indicate an unanimous agreement of the sample, that the current way of headteachers’ selection is completely unreliable. Thus, meritocratic procedures to select the headteachers that they should take into account both their educational background and their personality are urgent. Moreover, the proposition that the constant training and education is of great importance to exert his/hers responsibilities was also confirmed. The contribution of this paper to both the educational field and the management of educational units concerns the configuration of proposals on order to achieve the best and most effective selection of headteachers in the elementary education.
